The health of others can be increased, and existing strikes can have their power or speed upgraded. Most of these are brand-new attack maneuvers, which can be activated by pressing various button combinations. Kill points are accumulated after each level and can be used to acquire new skills. The more unique the attacks are and the fewer times they succeed in hitting the player, the higher the score total will be for each successful kill. The player character advances through the stages while engaging in combat against hordes of orcs, goblins, and other monsters using a variety of attack and parrying maneuvers. Players can take control of Aragorn, Legolas, or Gimli as they engage in combat against the evil forces led by the Dark Lord Sauron to safeguard the Ring of Power and bring peace back to Middle-earth. Even though it is the third film in the trilogy, it covers events that occurred in both the first and second films. The story is pure magic. The first Lord of the Rings video game, developed by Electronic Arts and based on the film series, is a traditional beat-them-up-style action game. I cannot sing a lick in tune but hey I would have pushed HARD for a professional singer to take over this task. This ended up being a joke that was taken way way too far. Yes I understand that Ents speak in a slow and deliberate basso voice but my goodness this idea was taken 70,000 Ent strides too far. The twig that broke the camels back was the Treebeard dialogue. Gimli the dwarf is the loudest & most irritating Scotsman I could ever conjure. The gutteral Orc speech is way over the top. I hear Aragorn as a much more forceful character than this Narrator provides. My criticism involves the following: Aragorn 'whispers' or speaks with a downward breathy tone that to me sounds very undecided or morose. I chose this version based on stellar reviews and was looking forward to this performance. I love Tolkien & it is hard for me to admit defeat but this audio book was not my cup of mead.
